Child support can be ordered in a divorce, paternity case, family support action, or custody action.

The amount of child support is determined by following the Michigan Child Support Formula.

The Friend of the Court and Child Support

The Friend of the Court enforces child support according the the Support and Parenting Time Enforcement Act.  The most common enforcement remedy is income withholding.  The Friend of the Court can also bring contempt of court proceedings, suspend drivers and recreational licenses, or place liens on property.  Also, payers who fall behind in child support can have their federal or state tax refunds intercepted and bank accounts seized.

All child support in Michigan is processed by the Michigan State Disbursement Unit.

MiCase is a website the State of Michigan provides where parties can view their child support payment and enforcement information.  View the MiCase Website.
