The first Road Patrol Millage was passed by the voters of this County in 1990. The .9 of a mil millage is for a ten year term and has been renewed twice, once in 2000, and again in 2010. Due to increasing costs to run a modern law enforcement agency, in 2019 the voters in Delta County were asked for the 2020 millage renewal to be increased to 1.3 of a mil. The voters in Delta County overwhelmingly approved this measure.
The Patrol division is responsible for Traffic enforcement, accident investigation, criminal investigation, Marine patrol, Snowmobile patrol, ORV patrol, Weigh master, animal control, Forest patrol, Drug Enforcement(UPSET) and the protection of all citizens and visitors of Delta County.
Currently there are 15 full time road patrol officers that patrol the 1,171.1 square miles in the county. The population of the county is 36,790.
The Department has obtained several grants and with the road patrol millage has been able to run a professional and well organized Law Enforcement agency that is able to respond to emergencies on land, water, and in any conditions.
