Formed in 1985 in cooperation with the Army National Guard, Delta County Search and Rescue is an all volunteer, 20 member team that responds to technical rescues covered under NFPA 1670 and 1006 respectively. We cover all 1,170 square miles of Delta County, along with its 221 miles of Lake Michigan Shoreline. We also respond to surrounding counties under mutual aid agreements through the Michigan Sheriff’s Association. Funding for the team comes from team held fundraisers, grants, and donations from businesses or individuals in the community.
We respond to calls for:
- Missing persons
- Ice Rescue
- Swiftwater Rescues
- High Angle Rope Rescue
- Wilderness Medical Evacuations
- Assistance to EMS agencies
- Assistance to Marine Patrol for Marine Emergencies
Members go through rigorous and thorough training to become proficient in technical rescue. They not only train with our team, but also respond and work with other agencies in the community as Firefighters, Medical First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Physicians, Police Officers, Sheriff’s Deputies, etc.
If interested in joining, applications may be picked up at the Delta County Sheriff’s Office.
